The events that make Friuli Venezia Giulia the perfect destination are endless and extremely varied. Friulidoc, the wine and food event held in Udine in mid September is to be considered as one of the most important attractions where you can taste an assortment of regional dishes. Skilled craftsmanship can be appreciated in the products exposed by other participating regions and bordering countries like Istria, Austria and Slovenia . There are attractions for all tastes and ages, musical events for children, exhibitions and conventions, folklore and theatre acts. Every year various international events are organized. For example “Mittelfest” in Cividale, a great festival of prose, music, dance and puppet shows carried out by countries of Central Europe in mid July and “Chocofest” which takes place towards the end of November in the main square of Gradisca d’Isonzo (Gorizia), a festival entirely dedicated to chocolate. This year 2008 will be the eleventh chocolate edition. San Daniele, home of the renowned “prosciutto” hosts an important gastronomic event called “Aria di Festa” at the end of August. During this event, you can satisfy your palate with prosciutto tasting and other Friulian specialties. A new approach to highlight this years festival will involve the entire historic town centre, transforming it into an enormous prosciutto tasting open-air salon. Ten prosciutto producers also will open up their factories to visitors in search of the secrets of San Daniele. In Aprile, Udine presents the “Far East Film Festival”, a prestigious showcase of Oriental movies, the first and only one of the kind in the world with a continuous increase of viewers from abroad. Revellino Park in Osoppo hosts the biggest reggae and ska music festival in Europe organised by the Rototom SunSplash. You can enjoy the performances of Italian artists and famous international stars. The 2007 edition boasted an audience of 150 thousand coming from all parts of Europe. On this occasion yoga, massages and dancing lessons are organised. Meetings and moments of meditation are carried out in relaxing sites in contact with nature and a large camping area is reserved inside the park. The 2008 edition will take place from 03rd to 12th of July. For over 50 years Udine organises the “Casa Moderna” furniture exhibition. Over 500 exhibitors, leaders in this sector, connected to the more exclusive national and international brands in furniture design exhibit promoting trends, innovation and design of their latest models, new materials and ideas. “Cantine Aperte” is an occasion for the more passionate about wine, to visit the more important wineries which open up to visitors for wine tasting of their DOC produce.
